Spirits in Stone The Secrets of Megalithic America Glenn Kreisberg Graham Hancock 9781591431626 Books Reviews

  • The archaeology of the Northeast has been neglected and ignored for far too long. We are told that settlers built hundreds of cairns and moniliths deep in the woods all across the region in their spare time for no discernable reason. That doesn't even sound logical, yet that is the official story. Decades ago, Barry Fell tried to wake people up, but perhaps was a little too quick in his theorizing. He did open the door to other serious researchers, and every once in awhile folks like Cyrus Gordon, Robert Ellis Cahill and Salvatore Trento tried to show what has been hiding in plain sight. Kreisberg's book is long overdue in joining them and only scratches the surface. As he documents, people are finally realizing that this region is covered in relics from a time before Columbus. It has been right in front of people - people convinced to believe things contrary to what their eyes were seeing - all this time. Hopefully, more people will continue this work. So much of our history is waiting to be unburied.
  • This book is a window into another world, our own. We look with disconnected ,and disbelieving eyes, into the wonder of the universe. Glenn Kreisberg's book shares his excitement in it in clear prose what he has discovered hiding in plain sight. While we are taught to run from nature and keep the animals away the native people of the Americas made peace with that world by embracing it in their personality and dispositions, and family clans from that. Glenn Kreisberg shows us they also worked it into the environment. The stunning Turtle effigy stones sitting in the woods in the Catskills and surrounding woods of upstate New York and New England are 'captured','No',bad word, rather shared with us, in great b/w photos that are not doctored but clear and inspiring. That is but the beginning of awakening the woods for us. There are stone cairns, and serpent lines, that are intentional and everywhere "if you have eyes to see" (That saying seems to works on near everything) What I like here is the book does not force meaning, some things are a mystery and some things are explained Mr Kreisberg is wise enough to know the difference. He is that wonderful mix of scientist and electronic expert and champion rock climber and woodsmen..
He shows us here in the Woodland Northeast are alignments to discover and magnetic and electronic Yin and Yang power grids to explore right here in the stones in the American north east. But the extra treat in this book is the translation from French on an amazing long piece on Carnac the Breton rows of standing stones that transcends knowledge.by the wise woman Ros Strong, one of the founders and last independent thinkers who was at the beginning of New England Antiquities Research Association NEARA. She is still ahead of her time. Very little is written on these long rows of Megalithic Standing stones in English. Here is a gift bonus in this book!. I can testify to the living energy in those stones. Besides all that he photos and maps of New York woodland Standing Stones, effigy mounds are packed in here. Let me just say this, If you think Woodstock was over with the festival read this and discover what wonder lives in it's woods!

“Spirits in Stone The Secrets of Megalithic America (Decoding the Ancient Cultural Stone Landscapes of the Northeast)” by Glenn Kreisberg was quite an eye-opening read. Honestly, I read it thinking I would learn there was some giant Stonehenge like structure just down the road from me. Let me go ahead spoil it for you, there isn’t. However, I did learn there is a surprising amount of fascinating stone artifacts all over the northeast, and that there is an inherent bias in the archaeological community as to their importance and the need to study and preserve them.

Fortunately, Kreisberg and the New England Antiquities Research Association finds these sites, studies them, and works with others to get them protected. In the process, they’ve learned there is more to these stones than just their age. “Spirits in Stone” shares their reports from many of these locations. I’m not going to lie, it can be rather dry reading but I still enjoyed it and feel it’s an important book.
