"You can be sitting in the train working a puzzle but it can take you far away from the everyday. Before you know it you're at your stop or about to pass it. It's not like you were even in the train. It's something different, something removed from the ordinary."--Maki Kaji, The Japanese Times

Boasting an average of 60 word clues, each game is centered on themes such as Letters to Rome, Tax Credits, Opposites Attract, and more.

"Great way to keep the mind active. Just the right difficulty for this college educated person with enough popular references to be current. Love that the authors are listed. Print is easy to read (but not large print)."

  • The format is small, about 4 1/2" wide and 8" high and quite thick making it difficult to use. It will not lay flat or stay open to the page you are working on without holding it in place. The squares for entering letters are also small, about 1/4" or less so you have to be very precise about entering letters. Trashed it after doing 2 puzzles.
  • For some reason I thought this would be a low to medium difficulty level because I solved many a USA Today daily croswords 95% complete most of the time.
    But nope. Not this book!
Here's a few examples for ya before you buy.
Note These are from ONE puzzle...
    CLUE Kyrgyz Mountain Range
    CLUE ____ di Como, Italia
    CLUE Do parquetry
    CLUE Department of France
    CLUE Sukiyaki Ingredient
CLUE Place for two black suits
Now, if these are easy one's for you, then good on ya!
    Have a nice day😀
  • I like these puzzles because they are written with clever clues! But not so far fetched that you can't get the answer. They do have some answers that require very specific knowledge that most people wouldn't know. That always bugs me! I like the fact that the puzzles have a theme which I find fun to figure out how the answers fit into. Basically a good medium level book! The print quality is good - could be darker though. Paper quality is OK, certainly not top grade paper but good enough.
  • I'm normally a NYT Tues-Wed level, and can sometimes struggle through a Thursday. So far I'm about 30 puzzles into this USA Today puzzle book. I seem to start each one stumped, get a few of the easier clues, and usually complete them with maybe only a spelling mistake or 2. I'd say this is perfect for me and I plan to order the next one in the series when I get most of the way through this one.
  • I need to get a new one! Almost done with this. I love crosswords and this is a good one. I'm not bright enough for the N.Y. Times crosswords and the easy ones are boring, so this is right up my alley!!!
  • The questions that I can guess are clever, however there's too much movie trivia from the 1940s. I'm 23, I don't know who starred in ____ movie. Maybe it's because they're targeting older demographics, but either way I'll be searching for books that involve less ancient media trivia.
  • A nice collection of moderately hard puzzles. Just about the right level for me I guess. Like most of these things, it's awkward to use, but you just have to put up with that I guess. Definitions are on the left page and the grid on the right and overall size is 8x5x1 1/2 inches. Definitions are pretty straight forward with very few of the arcane, ancient, unknowable variety. Following current fashion, definitions tend to be somewhat of the tongue in cheek variety, but I've mostly gotten used to that now. I haven't found any mistakes. A good value.
